Hi! I'm Hayley- Founder & Therapist
Hi! My name is Hayley Johnstone and I am a Registered Counselling Therapist in Nova Scotia. I have been working in the world of helping people for over 10 years. I began as a Social Worker in the Yukon for Family & Children’s Services, Income Support Services and Services for People with Disabilities before heading back to school to become a Licensed Counselling Therapist.
I moved to Nova Scotia and attended Acadia University’s Master of Education in Counselling program (2017-2018) and have been working as a Counselling Therapist since my practicum! I am passionate about helping individuals work towards understanding, managing and bettering their mental health.
I enjoy working with a variety of mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, workplace difficulties, grief & loss, work/life balance, and other concerns. I hold a particular interest in working with individuals struggling with body image, disordered eating, building self confidence and personal growth.
My Approach
I use a collaborative, person-centered approach and draw from a number of theoretical frameworks depending on each client’s situation, needs and goals. Some frameworks used include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Strengths-Based, Cultural Informed and Trauma informed practices. I often use analogies and humour in session to help shift perspective of what may be happening and take a wider lens on what supports, tools and solutions may be available to you. In session we will explore how your physical being is connected to your mental health by working to identify emotions, where you may feel certain emotions in the body, explore healthy relief and gain a better understanding of what may be causing these underlying feelings and emotions. I continue to expand my knowledge and skillset within my profession with my goal to provide the most appropriate supports to each of my clients.
